Unemployment in Peru is very high, and so is the number of people working in the informal economy. In Cusco, a city which is highly dependent from tourism, many people work in this trade. The poor part of the society is relegated to the lower economic ranks. It is the poor who produce goods cheaply and who sell their products at low prices to intermediaries and shops. Or else this group seeks buyers for their goods in the street where they find little perspective for decent profits. Moreover, those with few economic means have difficulties finding jobs in the tourism or in the administrative sector due to lack of education. Institutions providing vocational training and courses are too expensive and transition to universities is often difficult since this requires a solid educational fundament. The state schools mostly don't give a good preparation for university, and specific pre-university education is too expensive. Youngsters from the poor parts of the population therefore need access to good vocational training so that they can earn a decent living after their education.
